Ingelheim Imperial Palace

"A magnificent building, supported by a hundred columns ..."

What the imperial palace looked like and how it has been used since Charlemagne. A combination of a museum tour and a tour of the Kaiserpfalz!

.. that is how Ermoldus Nigellus describes the recently established Ingelheimer Kaiserpfalz around 826/28. Archaeological finds confirm that Ingelheim, due to its splendor, ranks high among Charlemagne's palaces. You can find out what the Imperial Palace looked like and how it was used by Charlemagne and the subsequent Ottonians and Staufers from the Imperial Palace model in the museum and on a subsequent tour of the Imperial Palace.
