‘Arts & Sounds’ in the Aula regia
Four-day open-air event with Zuckmayer theatre play, Brel project and Midsummer Night's Dream
Four-day open-air event with Zuckmayer theatre play, Brel project and Midsummer Night's Dream
Ingelheim's Kultur und Marketing GmbH (IkUM) is once again presenting artistic enjoyment in the open air in 2025 as part of the summer culture series ‘Arts & Sounds’ in the Aula regia. In the historic setting of Charlemagne's former throne room, the audience will be offered a first-class cultural programme with the play ‘Alles Carl? - Alles Karl!’, the Brel project and A Midsummer Night's Dream (interpreted by Rufus Beck). The ‘Arts & Sounds’ series comprises four days of events this year. The first two evenings are dedicated to a special theatre project, which is part of the Rhine-Hessian Zuckmayer theme year ‘Alles Carl’.
To kick off ‘Arts & Sounds’, the play ‘Alles Carl? - Alles Karl!’ is on the programme on Thursday, 7 August and Friday, 8 August, both from 8 pm. The project, which is dedicated to the great Rhine-Hessian writer Carl Zuckmayer, is staged as ‘community theatre’ with and for people from the region. In the folk play by Claudia Wehner and Thilo Zetzmann, which charmingly combines comedy and historical musical comedy, theatre professionals and amateur actors stand side by side on stage. At the centre of the play are two famous ‘Carls/Karls’ who have left their mark on the Rheinhessen region - each in their own way: Carl Zuckmayer and Charlemagne. The play, which was specially produced for the performances in Ingelheim, combines different time periods and offers plenty of material for an inspiring evening of theatre. The Ingelheim Museum at the Kaiserpfalz is on board as a co-operation partner.
French charm and lifestyle will be wafting through the Aula regia on Saturday, 9 August at 8 pm when the ‘Brel Project’ takes to the stage with its new programme. In their programme, Steffen Heieck (moderator and vocals), Christian Küchenmeister (piano and clarinet) and Jürgen Nuffer (guitar) focus on the unique artistic connection between language and music in the works of the three greatest representatives of literary chanson in France: Jacques Brel, Georges Brassens and Léo Ferré. ‘Music makes words dance’ is the motto of the “Brel Project”, which brings the three famous French singers and poets to life on stage. The German moderation opens the doors to the lyrics and fates of the legendary artist trio for the audience. A real treat from the ‘Brel Project’.
To conclude ‘Arts & Sounds’, the IkUM is presenting a very special ‘Midsummer Night's Dream’ on Sunday, 10 August at 5 pm in the Aula regia. The audience can look forward to a musical reading based on William Shakespeare's famous comedy of errors. Renowned actor, radio play and dubbing actor Rufus Beck plays and narrates his ironic, modern version of A Midsummer Night's Dream in the style of a stand-up comedian. The two pianists Anna and Ines Walachowski garnish the performance with pieces by the composer Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy. The historic ambience of the Aula regia provides the ideal platform for this wonderful production of the Shakespeare classic.
