“Wanted: World Literature!” – Multatuli in Ingelheim
Short lecture

"He was so completely unknown there [in Ingelheim] when we lived there." - This statement applies to none other than the most important writer in the Netherlands: Eduard Douwes Dekker. Better known by his pseudonym “Multatuli,” he spent the last years of his life in Nieder-Ingelheim and died there on February 19, 1887. To care for the writer’s memory, the “International Multatuli Society Ingelheim” was founded on the 100th anniversary of his death in 1987 «. In 2024, the society's archives were handed over to the museum at the Imperial Palace, where they are now properly stored as the "Multatuli Archive" and the
provide a contact point for international multi-national research. On this occasion, the short lecture provides insights into Multatuli's life and work and presents objects from the archive.
