Appenheimer Hundertgulden

Carbonate, Rich, Gold: Riesling from Hundertgulden

It is Germany's most carbonate-rich vineyard. The lime- and salt-rich soil "Terra Fusca" was formed over 50 million years ago and was once a coral reef in the primordial sea. Today, it is mainly Rieslings that grow there, producing elegant wines with fine fruit aromas. Easily digestible top wines with a unique minerality. Carbones are salts. The current site name "Hundertgulden" probably dates back to the 14th century: At that time, the vineyard by the Westerberg changed hands several times. The new owners paid large sums in gold florins from the river Rhein. This vineyard is a real gold treasure!

Weingut Schloss Westerhaus

Winery Westerhaus Castle

Wines and estates are spectacular. The castle ensemble (16th/17th century) towers stately over Ingelheim. In 1900, the von Opel family acquired the estate. Today, the VDP winery is run by Count and Countess Schönburg-Glauchau in the fourth generation. It benefits from an outstanding stock of vines in the Schloss Westerhaus monopollage and other sites in the Selz Valley.

Wine tastings are available by appointment for up to 50 people.

The winery is located directly on the premium hiking trail "Hiwweltour Westerberg".

Paddocks and stables reveal that Schloss Westerhaus is not only a winery, but also a stud farm that breeds racehorses. When the large wooden gate of the castle is open, the vinotheque is open and you can taste a glass of wine made from the vines that grow along the Hiwweltour Westerberg.
