More than wine - tradition with a future
More than wine - tradition with a future
The young winemakers of Generation Y have mostly studied and many of them have gained experience in wineries around the world during their training in order to think outside the box. A sound education and innovative ideas are the basis for sustainable cultivation and the production of delicious wines - the future will be enjoyable in Ingelheim!
Wine is a natural product - and so one of the central concerns of the new generation of winegrowers is environmental protection. Natural resources should be protected so that future generations can also produce high-quality wines. Through sustainable practices in the vineyard, winegrowers are helping to protect biodiversity and maintain soil health.
Organic viticulture now completely dispenses with synthetic chemical pesticides and herbicides and instead relies on natural methods, such as the use of beneficial insects and the sowing of green cover plants in the vineyard. What many people don't realise: This has a long tradition here. The first completely organic wines were produced in Ingelheim 40 years ago!
In almost all Ingelheim wineries, family tradition is lived and worked hand in hand across generations. Whether young or old, man or woman - each family member contributes their personal strengths. The classic role model of the originally male-dominated profession has long since become obsolete: Daughters are increasingly taking on responsibility in the wineries.
The "Working Families" are constantly developing new ideas to make their wine a multifaceted experience. In the process, additional economic sectors such as hotels and catering have developed. In Ingelheim, too, you can go on holiday at a winery, stay overnight in a modern wine hotel, experience the authentic atmosphere of an estate tavern or enjoy a gourmet menu with corresponding wines. In the quieter phases of the wine year, activities such as winter torchlight hikes, fondue evenings by candlelight or a gourmet picnic in the vineyard are often offered. If you like, you can actively experience the grape harvest in autumn or dance to live music at one of the many farm festivals. The wide range of wine-related activities are popular beyond the region - here you can experience Rhine-Hessian conviviality authentically and up close.
Charlemagne, who once brought the first Burgundy vines from France to Ingelheim, would have been delighted:
the future of Ingelheim wines lies in innovation and a great deal of passion for the Rhine-Hessian region.
