Experience the unique atmosphere of the Red Wine Festival while being enchanted by live music and entertainment. Enjoy the socialising and make new contacts while indulging in the culinary delights.
It is one of the most beautiful wine festivals in Rheinhessen. This has been official since 2014, as the ‘Excellent Wine Festival’ seal is only awarded by Rheinhessenwein GmbH to outstanding wine festivals that fulfil the high requirements in terms of wine offerings, food and quality of stay.
The traditional folk festival kicks off on 28 September at 4 pm with the coronation of the new Red Wine Queen Sara Weitzel on the Ober-Ingelheim market square. The new Red Wine Queen will be accompanied by her two princesses, Alina Braig and Marit Klumb. To celebrate the event in style, guests can toast the newly crowned red wine majesties with the ‘Krönungspiffche’ during the ceremony. As last year, the ‘Krönungspiffche’ (0.1 litre) will be offered at a price of one euro. The coronation wine comes from the Jochen Weitzel winery.
Of course, the traditional highlights are once again on the programme for the Red Wine Festival 2024 - such as the open Red Wine Festival Sunday on 29 September, the popular Senior Citizens' Afternoon on 2 October, the Ingelheim Evening of Vintages on 3 October, the Burgundy wine tasting by the Lord Mayor on 4 October and, as the crowning finale, the brilliant fireworks display in the vineyards. Tickets for the Burgundy wine tasting are available for 29 euros from Thursday, 12 September from 10 a.m. at the Tourist Information Office in the Ingelheim Winzerkeller, Binger Straße 16, and online at Ticket Regional.
IkUM will be serving up a special treat in the music programme of the Red Wine Festival on Tuesday, 1 October, with a concert by the tribute band ‘not P!nk’, who will authentically perform songs by pop icon Pink in the festival tent. Their inspiring live arrangements will not only delight die-hard Pink fans. Tickets for the tribute show are available at the tourist information centres in Ingelheim and Gau-Algesheim, at the Wagner bookshop and at the box office. Admission costs 10 euros including a 5 euro food voucher. More information here.
On the Day of German Unity (Thursday, 3 October), IkUM invites you to a big family afternoon on the festival grounds. ‘Clown Filou’ will take the audience (from 3 pm in the marquee) on an adventurous journey followed by a balloon show. Directly afterwards (4 p.m.), Alex Schmeisser will take to the open-air stage with a suitcase full of music and stage a hands-on concert for young and old. The family afternoon will once again feature various stands and rides with discounts.
As last year, there will once again be a ‘Piffche Pass’ that can be redeemed at various wine stands. The pass, which can be purchased at the red wine fountain of the Ingelheim Vinothek and in advance at the Ingelheim Tourist Information Centre, offers the opportunity to get to know various wineries and make one or two new discoveries. To simplify organisation and processing, this year each participating winery will have a personal favourite wine ready for users of the ‘Piffche Pass’. The ‘Schoppe-Kärtsche’ will also be back at the 2024 Red Wine Festival. With the stamp card, you can get ten bottles of wine for a total of 40 euros exclusively at the red wine fountain during the nine days of the festival.
The red wine fountain, which is operated by the Ingelheim Vinothek, once again acts as a showcase for Ingelheim wines and invites visitors to taste and discover them. From Secco to white wine, from rosé to the great Ingelheim red wine, a wide range of wines from the 25 vinotheque wineries are on offer. So it's definitely worth making a stop at the Vinothek wine stand. Not far from the red wine fountain, there is a novelty this year: Philipp Weitzel, the reigning ‘Father Rhine’ since the harbour festival, is inviting visitors to the red wine festival to enjoy a glass of wine from his farm.
And there will be something else new in 2024: for the first time, Ingelheim clubs will be serving wine for a good cause at the ‘club wine stand’ at the Rosengärtchen. From Monday, 30 September to Sunday, 6 October, seven associations will take turns each day to use the wine pavilion, which is run by the wine committee of Ingelheim's twin town San Pietro at the start of the red wine festival.
There is also a new addition to the music programme this year: IkUM has invited local music societies to perform at the Red Wine Festival in order to add another colour to the musical spectrum with the genre of brass band music. The Catholic Church Music Heidesheim and the Musikverein 1921 Weiler will now be bringing this colour to this year's Red Wine Festival with their concerts on the open-air stage.
