Only tombstones survived - the fate of the Ingelheim Jews

In the immediate vicinity of the museum near the Kaiserpfalz was the former Jewish cemetery "Im Saal".

It was used until 1934, initially also for the deceased of the Jewish community in Ober-Ingelheim. Even if the cemetery no longer exists as such, some gravestones have been preserved. They are among the few testimonies to Jewish life in Ingelheim that survived the Holocaust.
Before we visit the cemetery, you will get an insight into the eventful history of Ingelheim Jews from the late Middle Ages to 1942, which was determined by persecution and exclusion as well as recognition and integration.
