Public tour: Waterways - Wackernheim's blue gold

The abundance of water has played an important role for Wackernheim for many centuries. Numerous springs and productive fountains shaped the place and everyday life. A remarkable construction work from the 8th century, at the time of Charlemagne, was the Carolingian aqueduct. Originating in Heidesheim, the water was routed through an underground channel that ran right through the center of Wackernheim. This is how the water came to the Palatinate in Ingelheim. Early on there were a multitude of mills along the watercourses, they were important meeting places for the villagers. With a hike we follow the path of the water, let yourself be surprised by stories about fountains, springs and mills.
