Ingelheim Imperial Palace

The old revered, the new reinforced - The Hohenstaufen renovate Charlemagne's palace

Themed tour of the Kaiserpfalz in Ingelheim and its structural changes from 11.-13. Century.

Unlike the Ottonians, the Hohenstaufen rulers of the 12th and 13th centuries rarely visited the Ingelheim imperial palace. Nevertheless, they extensively renovated the palace district. In particular, Emperor Friedrich I Barbarossa is associated with the extensive construction work in the Palatinate. On a tour of the hall area, you can find out what prompted the Hohenstaufen to expand Charlemagne's Palatinate and convert it into a fortified castle.
